FAQs

What are ARK products made from?

Natural and inert materials: teak and bamboo, food-grade stainless steel, high
borosilicate glass, 100% cotton, and plant fibres like coconut and sisal. No
synthetic coatings, and no plastic in the products themselves.

Why does plastic-free matter for everyday products?

Everyday items shed as they wear, and when they're plastic, that can mean
microscopic plastic particles ending up in food, drinks, and waterways. A 2024
study found preparing meals with plastic cookware may contribute roughly 2,400
to 5,000 microplastic particles per person each year. Our products are made from
wood, bamboo, stainless steel, glass, and natural fibres instead, so what wears
away can return to the earth, not your plate.

Are your products safe for contact with food?

Yes, that's the point. Our kitchen range uses untreated natural wood,
food-grade stainless steel, and borosilicate glass, chosen specifically because
they're stable, inert materials for everything that touches what you eat and
drink. Each product page lists exactly what it's made from.

Why do wooden products vary slightly in colour and grain?

Because they're made from real wood. Grain, tone, and texture differ from piece
to piece, a feature of genuine natural material, not a fault. No two are
identical, and yours won't look exactly like the photo.

How long do natural products last compared to plastic ones?

With basic care, longer than you'd expect, a well-made wooden utensil set
outlasts most plastic equivalents many times over. Natural materials do age
honestly: wood tone deepens, bristles soften with heavy use. That's character,
not decay, and each product page includes care instructions to get the longest
life from it.

How do I care for wooden and bamboo items?

The short version: hand wash, dry thoroughly, don't soak, and skip the
dishwasher. Wooden utensils appreciate an occasional rub of food-grade mineral
oil; brushes like drying bristles-down and a bit of sunshine. Full care
instructions are on every product page.

What happens at the end of a product's life?

Products made from untreated natural materials, bamboo brushes, plant-fibre
bristles, wooden utensils, can go into home compost and return to the soil.
Stainless steel and glass are endlessly recyclable. Nothing here is destined
to sit in landfill for centuries.

Is it true ARK supports whale conservation?

Yes. We donate 2% of profits to whale conservation organisations. Whales are
among the ocean's most effective natural carbon systems, a single whale can
store as much carbon over its lifetime as roughly 1,500 trees absorb in a year,
yet they remain deeply underprotected. Supporting them is part of why Ark
exists, not a marketing line. You can read the full story on our About page.
